This year almost 50 girls aged between 5 and 13 attended our annual summer camp. The girls were coached by some of our own Senior team members, Rose Harrington, Maria Moran, Ciara O Connell, Aoife Kearney and Deirdre O Leary, as well as Tipperary Senior Camogie captain, Jill Horan. Luckily, the weather obliged over the course of the 3 days so we managed to stay outdoors. Great fun was had improving skills, practicing drills and playing games.
On the final day of the camp we had some well well known GAA stars down to visit the girls. Everyone was delighted to meet Cork dual player Eoin Cadogan, Cork Footballers Nicholas Murphy and Colm O Neill, and Cork Camogie player Amanda O Regan. They all took time to chat to the girls, join in with shooting practice and other drills, and of course to pose for photos and sign autographs.
In recognition of their effort, all participants were presented with a medal and certificate at the end of the 3 days.
Many thanks to everybody wo helped out during the camp, especially Niamh O Callaghan, Gillian Kiely, Paddy Finn, John Middleton and Sharon Connell, and also to Texaco, who supplied refreshements.
Thanks again to Eoin, Nicholas, Colm and Amanda. We wish them all the very best of luck in their respective All Ireland Semi-Finals.

Unfortunately for Eoin, this pink hurley would clash with his red Cork jersey.

Last Saturday we played Valley Rovers in round 3 of the U11 Carrigdhoun Camogie League(South East) in Brinny GAA Grounds.
It was an outstanding display of Camogie from the Carrig Girls. Unfortunately Valleys were only able to field 13 players on the day our girls came away with a comprehensive victory. The score at half time was 3-1 to no score. Scores coming from Lisa Kiely with 1-1 from 45’s, and with Kelly Williams and Leah Deasy putting a goal each on the score board.
Even though the match was evened up in the second half with the introduction of 2 U12 players for Valley Rovers, Carrigaline still kept the upper hand through 2 Lauren O’Brien goals. We rotated the goalie throughout the game and during her stint between the posts Lauren Bickerstaffe pulled off a fantastic save to leave the final score at 5-1 to 0-0.
Special mention to Sara Healy who played her first game of camogie on Saturday, and also to Doireann Hogan and Kate O’Brien who came with us for the day.
All girls performed fantastically on the day and should be proud of themselves.
The Team: Kelly Williams(1-0), Claire Stack, Aisling Ryle, Molly Ryan, Lisa Kiely(1-1), Leah Deasy(1-0), Roisin O’Connell, Lauren O’Brien(2-0), Caoimhe Hogan, Caitlin Kearney, Caoimhe O’Regan, Doireann Hogan, Lauren Bickerstaffe, Kate O’Brien, Rachel Long, Sara Healy.

On the evening 27th of Jul 2010 we played Douglas in a U11 Camogie Challange Game in the Carrigaline GAA Grounds.
From the first whistle every girl played like it was a Championship Game. Putting into practice what they had learnt over the last few weeks paid off. Each month we have been learning a new skill and this was put into action in the game. Well done Girls and you should all be proud of yourselves.

2 brilliant goals were scored, one by Una Hegarty as she came in from the righthand side of the pitch and stuck the sliothar in the back of the net from 10 meters out. That put us a goal up at halftime. Late in the second half Caoimhe Hogan let fly on the ball about 20 metres out, Rachel Long duoubled on it to score her first Goal with Carrigaline.

The Team: Kelly Williams, Leah Gleeson, Rachel Long(1-0), Megan Allen, Aisling Ryle, Una Hegarty(1-0), Caoimhe O’Regan, Leah Deasy, Roisin O’Connell, Lauren O’Brien, Caoimhe Hogan, Kaylin Hughes, Caitlin Kearney, Ciara O’Neill, Lauren Bickerstaffe, Ciara Barton, Tara Carrig, Danu Ni Thuama.

Our Senior team opened their championship campaign against The Glen in wet and miserable conditions in Shanbally. Despite the absence of some key players, it was a closely fought match, with The Glen only really getting on top in the final quarter. It finished on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-2.

Since the Senior Chamionship is run on a league style format, our girls still have 3 more games in the qualifying stages. This evening they come up against Bishopstown at 7.30pm in the Cork Camogie Grounds at Castle Road, Blackrock. All support would be appreciated.
They also have to play Éire Óg and Killeagh. The dates for these games are Friday 30th July and Tuesday 24th August respectively. Dates and pitches have not yet been arranged.

Tom & Kathleen Jones, Siobhan Crowley, Charlie Meehagan, Nuala O Connor and Marie Scully travelled to Kerry along with the U-16 team. We entered the U-16 A section of the competition, where we were drawn against 2 other Cork teams. On Saturday, our girls defeated both Eire Og and Blackrock. This placed them straight into the final on Sunday. Once again Carrigaline faced Eire Og, but unfortunately this time round Eire Og had the upper hand, winning on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-3, with all Carrigaline scores coming from the hurley of Abbie O Meara.

Well done to all the players who represented the Carrigaline Camogie Club and many thanks to the parents of Laura Dwane, Rachel O Shea, Niamh Malone and Yvonne Drake who all made the journey to support the team at the weekend.
