CENTENARY
DINNER DANCE 2004! |
Over
130 people attended the annual Carrigaline Camogie Club dinner
social at Fernhill Golf Club last weekend, looking back on their
past year's achievements and reflecting on what could have been.
2004 was not an altogether successful one for the club, but
was just as eventful in many ways, not only in the field of
play, but social and fundraising events which were held over
the past twelve months.
Club Chairman Philip Doherty admitted that there was little
to show in the line of trophies and awards this year, but added
that the club was currently going through a transition period,
adjusting and reforming and finding their way into the senior
grades. He went on to thank the many coaches, selectors, committee
and members as well Michelle Jewellers for their sponsorship
who had give so much time and effort to the club, from the very
youngest to the senior players and was confident of achieving
South East and County titles in the not too distant future.
In the past few years the Carrigaline club have gone from capturing
the Junior B and Junior A County Titles and now face a more
challenging demanding Senior B Grade, but are confident of making
their mark in the championship in the coming years. Although
the season has finished for most of the club, the Under 16's
are in a county final this week against Blarney, while the Under
11 and Under 13 teams are in the semi final stages of their
respective competitions, so there still could be silverware
at the club by the end of the year! The club still held many
events within the club, including sponsored walks and camogie
camps (one which was held only last month), with quite a few
members travelling to Croke Park for the All Ireland finals.
However the club did celebrate the success of two players, namely
Ann Kiely & Caroline O'Keeffe who were on the Carrigdhoun
team which won the County Senior title for the first time, with
Tom Kiely as one of the selectors, who were presented with their
medals only recently at a function held in Bull McCabes.
In marking his recent retirements from the club, a presentation
was made to Des O'Connell by Emily Power & Tom Kiely, who
had coached the team over the past ten years, capturing the
County Junior B & A titles and taking them into the senior
grade to become one of the most respected & feared camogie
clubs throughout the county.
The club is now looking forward to 2005 and are prepared and
ready for local and county championship campaigns and hope to
have some silverware at the top table to show for the hard work
and dedication made by all by this time next year. |
