GREAT COMEBACK BY THE JUNIOR B's
Carrigaline 1 – 3, Glen Rovers 1 - 3
The Carrigaline Junior B camogie team served up a stirring
display at the Glen Field recently to get a share of the
points in a torrid, low scoring, encounter. At half time
we were 1 -2 to 0 -1 behind and had failed to make progress
up front against a more Physical Glen rear division. In
the second half Carrig concentrated more on ground hurling
and the move of Una O’Farrell to centre forward brought
us more into the game. Stephanie Hayes was creating more
openings up front as well when she went to the edge of the
small square. At the back Lisa O’Driscoll, Elaine
Egan & Vicky O’Doherty were performing heroics.
Anne Kiely brought off some great saves including one which
was deflected out for a 45 which resulted in the Glen’s
only second half score.
Katie O’Doherty pointed two second half frees to leave
just a goal between the sides and with time running out,
Una O’Farrell soloed 50 yards with the ball before
striking the ball into the bottom right hand corner for
a well earned draw. This was a huge team effort.
We have 3 more league games left and the top 2 will qualify
for the play-offs. Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays
for Juniors, Seniors & U16’s though a number o
friendly matches have also been planned. We will be playing
in the “special” under 16, 12 a side championship
against Barryroe, in the end of August. We are playing in
the ‘12 a side’ competition because of a shortage
of players at this age group. There is also a Senior B tournament
planned for September.
