GUESTS VISIT U16 HEROES
The
Carrigaline Camogie Club hosted two All-Ireland medal winners
last week when Wayne Sherlock of the Cork senior hurling tream
and recent camogie All-Star winner Aoife Murray attended the
presentation of medals to the Carrigaline U16 camogie team.
This was the only major success in the camogie club this year,
but they celebrated their county win in fine style by inviting
two very special Cork players to present the medals to the
team.
Speaking at the presentation of the county medals, Andrew
O'Farrell, team coach, remarked that this team had never won
anything before throughout the years and was confident that
with their first county success that others would soon follow.
He added that with the coaching from Ollie Troy from the Community
School, the team has done remarkably well, reaching the semi-finals
of the U15 and U16B league, and although some players were
now going into the senior grades, the bulk of the team was
still young and able to play in the U16 competitions for the
next couple of years.
Aoife Murray from Cloughduv camogie club said that it was
an honour to be in Carrigaline and congratulated the girls
on their county success, adding that "nothing would stop
them gaining confidence and achieving further success."
It was a sentiment echoed by Wayne Sherlock who wished them
all the very best in the future, and went on to present each
player with their county medals.
Kevin O'Driscoll, former chairman of the Carrigaline GAA Club
said that he was delighted to see the team and club doing
so well, especially in the past couple of years which have
seen the camogie club advance into senior grades. He said
that he was glad to see Cork players such as Wayne and Aoife
attend an event such as this, giving advice and encouragement
to the younger players, and hoped that they would be back
in Carrigaline next year with even more All-Ireland medals.
A special presentation was made to Katie Doherty who was the
club's "Player of the Match" following her contriubtion
of 3-05 in the final against Blarney. |
