CARRIGALINE
WIN INAUGRAL PHILIP O DOHERTY TOURNAMENT
WITH A LATE SCORING BURST FROM CARRIG!
Carrigaline
U16 camogie girls recorded a win over Blarney in the Philip
O’Doherty Tournament Final in Carrigaline on Thursday
last. Carrig opened the scoring with a point from Grainne
O’Keeffe and Blarney soon equalised. Carrig had the
advantage of the breeze in the first half. Blarney scored
a goal in the 15th minute and followed up with a point to
which Carrig replied with a Máire MacInerney point
before half time to leave us a goal down at half time.
1 -2 to 0 – 2.
In the second half the game opened up more and Carrig came
more into the game. Maria Moran, Deirdre O’Leary and
Jennifer Foster began to stamp their authority on the game.
But scores were hard to come by. Jennifer Foster converted
two frees to leave the minimum between the sides with 10
minutes remaining. Then Linda Collins, now operating from
full forward goaled twice in a 5 minute spell to put Carrig
on their way and she added two points for good measure with
time running out. Final score Carrigaline 2- 06, Blarney
1 -02.
The Under 16 B championship is coming up where we will meet
the winners of Valley Rovers and Bishopstown. Training continues
on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Under 16 and adult players
at 7pm in Carrigaline GAA Club.
